User Guide & Documentation

VPS CDR conversion, browser export packages, CorelDRAW import workflow — all explained.

1. VPS CDR Conversion — Real .CDR Output

This mode sends your PDF to your own Hostinger VPS via the SimplePDFTools Queue API and receives a real CorelDRAW CDR file in return.

Single-page PDF: Returns a direct .cdr file you can open directly in CorelDRAW.

Multi-page PDF: Returns a .zip containing one .cdr per page. Extract the ZIP and open each CDR separately in CorelDRAW. There is no single merged multi-page CDR.

The download button label updates to reflect exactly what the server returned.

2. Browser-Based Export Modes (No Server)

Three modes work entirely in your browser — no file is uploaded anywhere:

  • CorelDRAW Page Package: SVG wrapper per page, sized to original PDF dimensions in pts. Import via CorelDRAW File → Import.
  • Asset Extraction Package: High-res PNG pages + JSON manifest.
  • Print Import Package: Up to 600 DPI PNG for PowerTRACE vectorisation.
Browser modes do NOT produce native .CDR. They create import-friendly SVG/PNG packages.

3. VPS API Setup

  1. Deploy the SimplePDFTools API server on your Hostinger VPS
  2. Enter your VPS URL as the API Base URL in the right panel
  3. Enter your API key (if your VPS has API_KEY configured)
  4. Click Test Connection — should show "Connected"
  5. Select VPS CDR Conversion and click Convert

4. Cancellation Behaviour

The Cancel button (or Escape key) stops browser-side waiting and all in-flight network requests immediately. However, once your PDF has been submitted to the VPS, the server-side conversion thread continues running on your VPS until it completes or times out — there is no server-side cancel endpoint.

If you cancel and re-convert the same file, a new job is created on the VPS.

5. Privacy

  • VPS mode: PDF is sent to your own VPS on Hostinger. No third-party service receives your file.
  • Browser modes: PDF never leaves your device. 100% local processing.
  • API key is sent only to your VPS endpoint and is never logged or displayed in the page.

6. Page Selection

  • Desktop: Click thumbnail to preview. Ctrl+Click (Cmd+Click on Mac) to toggle selection without changing preview.
  • Touch/Mobile: Enable Tap Select mode using the "Tap Select" button in the file bar. When active, a single tap toggles selection. Tap "Tap Select" again to return to normal navigation.
  • Use All / None buttons to quickly select or deselect all pages.

7. Frequently Asked Questions

Single-page PDF conversions return a direct .cdr file which opens natively in CorelDRAW. Multi-page PDF conversions return a .zip file containing one .cdr file per page — there is no single merged multi-page CDR. Extract the ZIP and open each page CDR separately in CorelDRAW. The download button always reflects the actual format the server returned.
Yes — the Cancel button or Escape key immediately stops all browser-side network requests (upload, polling, prefetch). However, if the PDF was already uploaded to the VPS, the server-side conversion thread continues running until it finishes or times out. There is no remote cancel mechanism. The tool will display "Cancelled in browser. Server job may still continue on VPS."
The health endpoint (/health) only confirms the API server is reachable. A conversion failure means the PDF processing itself failed on the VPS — usually because Inkscape or UniConvertor encountered an issue with that specific PDF. Check your VPS error logs at /var/www/simplepdftools-api/logs/error.log for the specific error message.
No. Browser export modes produce SVG wrappers and PNG images — not native CDR files. These are designed for import into CorelDRAW via File → Import, not for direct opening. For a real CDR file, use VPS CDR Conversion mode with your Hostinger VPS API configured.
Tap the "Tap Select" button in the file info bar to enable select mode. When active, a single tap on any thumbnail toggles its selection instead of navigating to that page. Tap "Tap Select" again to return to normal mode. You can also use the "All" and "None" buttons to select or deselect all pages at once.

8. Limitations

  • Multi-page CDR: The VPS returns one CDR per page in a ZIP — there is no single merged multi-page CDR. Open each page CDR separately in CorelDRAW.
  • Server cancel: Once queued, server-side conversion cannot be cancelled from the browser.
  • CDR quality: Conversion quality depends on Inkscape + UniConvertor on your VPS. Complex PDFs may require post-import cleanup in CorelDRAW.
  • Browser modes: SVG/PNG exports contain rendered page images, not individually selectable vector paths.
  • CMYK colour: Browser rendering and CDR conversion output RGB. Convert to CMYK in CorelDRAW before commercial print.
  • Mobile: Browser export modes may be slow on mobile for large PDFs. Recommended under 20 MB on mobile.
  • High DPI + many pages: 600 DPI with 20+ pages creates very large memory usage in the browser. Use 300 DPI or fewer pages on memory-constrained devices.
  • Password-protected PDFs: Must be unlocked before upload.
