What this tool does
PDF Editor runs 100% inside your browser. Merging, splitting, page edits and compression all happen locally on your device — nothing is ever uploaded.
The workspace has three panels: Pages on the left (thumbnails), your Preview in the center, and Tools on the right (Pages / Merge / Split / Compress tabs). On mobile, switch between them using the bottom tab bar.
Quick start
Upload a PDF → tap thumbnails to select pages → use the right-side tabs to merge, split, or compress → export from the
Pages tab.
Merge PDFs
Add one or more PDFs from the upload screen, or use "Add PDFs" in the Merge tab once you're in the workspace. Every page from every file you add joins one working page list, in the order you add them.
- Drag a PDF file directly onto the page strip to insert it at a specific position.
- Drop a file anywhere on the center preview to append it at the end.
- The Merge tab lists every source file and how many of its pages remain in your working document.
Example
Combining a cover letter and a resume: upload
cover-letter.pdf first, then in the Merge tab tap "Add PDFs" and choose
resume.pdf — it's appended after the cover letter, ready to export as one file.
Reorder, rotate, duplicate & delete pages
Drag any thumbnail to a new position on desktop. On mobile, use the up/down arrows that appear on each thumbnail. Select pages with the checkboxes, then rotate, duplicate, or delete the whole selection at once from the Pages tab.
- Select all / None — buttons above the thumbnail strip.
- Rotate Left / Right — rotates every selected page 90°.
- Duplicate Selected — copies each selected page (or the current page if none selected), inserting the copy right after the original.
- Insert Blank Page — adds a blank white page before, after the current page, or at the end.
- Delete Selected — removes selected pages (you can't delete every page).
At least one page must always remain — the last page in a document can't be deleted.
Undo / Redo
Every page change — reorder, rotate, duplicate, insert, delete, and edits from the Edit tab — can be undone with
Ctrl/Cmd+Z and redone with
Ctrl/Cmd+Y (or
Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+Z), or the Undo/Redo buttons above the tabs.
Add text, signatures, watermarks & page numbers
The Edit tab lets you place text and signatures directly on a page, and apply a watermark or page numbers across the document.
- Add Text — type your text, set size/color/bold, then tap "Add Text to Page". Drag the box on the preview to position it, and drag its bottom-right handle to resize.
- Edit existing text — tap any text box on the preview to edit its wording right there. Press
Enter or tap elsewhere to save, or Escape to cancel without saving. Drag the box (rather than just tapping) to move it instead.
- Signature — tap "Create Signature" to draw with your mouse or finger, type your name in a cursive style, or upload a PNG/JPG. Save it once, then place it on as many pages as you like.
- Watermark — enable it, set the text/color/opacity/rotation/position, and choose whether it applies to all pages, only your currently selected pages, or just the page you're viewing.
- Page Numbers — choose a format (1 / Page 1 / Page 1 of N), position, starting number, and which pages it applies to.
Selecting & deleting an item
Tap any text box or signature on the preview to select it (shown with a highlighted border) — then drag to move, use the handle to resize, or press
Delete/
Backspace to remove it.
Text, signatures, watermark and page numbers all stay attached to the correct page even after you reorder pages — they follow the page, not its position.
Split / extract pages
In the Split tab, enter a page range (or check pages in the Pages tab and tap "Use Selected") and tap "Extract as New PDF". This downloads just that range as its own PDF file — your original working document is not changed, so you can extract as many ranges as you like.
Need non-contiguous pages instead — like 1, 4 and 8? Check those pages in the Pages tab, then use "Extract Selected Pages" in the Split tab. It keeps them in document order regardless of the order you checked them.
Example
A 19-page report where you only need the summary on pages 1–3: set
From: 1,
To: 3, tap Extract — you get
report-pages-1-3.pdf while the full 19-page document stays open for further edits.
Compress PDF
Choose Low, Medium or High compression, or open Advanced settings to set an exact image resolution (DPI) and JPEG quality.
Compression re-renders each page as an image. This can significantly shrink scanned or image-heavy PDFs, but any selectable text will no longer be selectable afterward. Text-only PDFs may not shrink much and will become image-based.
Which level to pick
Low — a photo-heavy PDF you'll still want to zoom into.
Medium — good default for emailing or general sharing.
High — smallest file for a quick scan nobody needs to zoom into closely.
Privacy
No file is ever sent to a server — everything above happens using your browser's own processing power. Closing or refreshing the tab clears everything from memory immediately.
- No account, no sign-up, no tracking of file contents.
- Works fully offline once the page and its tools have loaded.
- If a tab becomes unresponsive on a very large file, try a smaller batch or use a desktop browser — see the limits at the top of this guide.
